Faculty of Medicine
Professorship in Anatomy (W2) (f / m / d)

The University of Cologne is one of Germany's largest and most research-intensive universities, offering a diverse range of subjects. With its six faculties and interfaculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of academic disciplines and internationally outstanding areas of specialisation.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

The professorship is part of the Department of Preclinical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne and includes independent leadership of Institute IV within the Centre for Anatomy. The professorship entails teaching anatomy, with a focus on histology, to students of human medicine, dentistry and neuroscience. The thematic focus of the research is open, but should meaningfully complement the existing research priorities of the Centre for Anatomy and the Faculty of Medicine. The professor is expected to pursue an internationally competitive research programme and establish links with existing Collaborative Research Centres, research groups and collaborative projects of the Faculty of Medicine, as well as the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research, the CECAD Cluster of Excellence, the Cologne Center for Genomics (CCG), the Centre for Integrated Oncology (CIO) and the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (ZMMK).

YOUR PROFILE

Applicants should be internationally recognised researchers in a competitive area of anatomical and/or life sciences research and be willing to cover the full breadth of anatomy, including macroscopic and microscopic anatomy. Academic excellence, the acquisition of third-party funding, a particular commitment to student teaching and regular participation in the Centre for Anatomy's examinations in German are expected. Willingness to actively help shape the model degree programme in medicine, as well as degree programmes and graduate programmes in which the Faculty of Medicine participates, is also expected. Social skills and a team-oriented working style are required. The formal requirements for application are a habilitation or equivalent achievements in research and teaching.

Relevant publications must be demonstrated. Finally, participation in the faculty's joint research activities and involvement in the faculty's academic self-governance are also expected.
